TodaysPapers Turns RSS Feeds Into A Big Ol' Community

Ever been rambling through your RSS feed list and want to comment on an item, or find out who's linking to that item, or even read other stories that people who have read that item have read? Now you can in a very nice RSS site, TodaysPapers ( http://www.todayspapers.com ) that turns the humble feed format into a nice community tool.

At the front page you'll find RSS feeds divided into categories, as well as the top stories, which are calculated based on a combination of clickthroughs to story, number of comments, and number of trackbacks Currently the site tracks 110 feeds, with 1,535 entries so far today. As the site as in beta (I'm not sure it's even officially launched yet) I'm sure it's going to grow.

Find a feed you want (or an entire category) and click on the title. You can also check on comments for that title (there aren't many at the moment.) Clicking on the title will give you a page devoted to that entry with the entry, of course, but also any comments, the story rank, a link to the source from which the entry came, a link to the "Technorati Cosmos" (that is, the pages that Technorati has found which link to the entry) and a trackback URL. If there are any, the page will also show other entries which someone reading this story has also read.

In other words, the single entry becomes both a jumpoff point for additional discussion as well a way to explore other 'blogs and entries that are hopefully similar enough in theme, perspective, or purpose to pique your interest.

When I saw that the site had comments I went bleh, comment spam, no way this will be workable. But the site does require non-onerous registration (name, e-mail, password, with the option to include zip code) before you can make comments, which should help keep out the gunk.

I would love to see a way to keep up with this outside a browser -- maybe an RSS feed or e-mail. There's already a couple of threads I'd like to see comments on. But this is an interesting take on what can often be a very pedestrian undertaking -- displaying RSS feeds. Visit!
