What's Your Disease Risk?

The Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention has had a site called "Your Cancer Risk," and has expanded it to "Your Disease Risk," which calculates the likelihood of getting five different diseases in the US. It's available at http://www.yourdiseaserisk.harvard.edu .

And on that cheery note, let's take a look at the site. The diseases featured on this site are cancer, diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and stroke. For each of these there's a "What's Your Risk" link.

Click on that and you'll be taken through a series of questions. I did the one for diabetes. I was asked questions about my gender, size, diet, smoking history, physical activity, and family history. And then I was relieved to discover that I have a relatively low chance of developing diabetes, knock wood.

Along with information about your risk level, the site also offers tips of things that you can do (if any) to further lower your risk, as well as how the things you're doing now are impacting your health.
