July 14, 2004Breakdown of Obituaries in Papers by StateBig101, about which I knew big nothin', has a list of links to obituaries in newspapers broken out by state. It starts at http://www.big101.com/OBITUARIES101.htm . There's a nav bar for the states at the top of the page, or you can start with Alabama at the top of the page. A look at Kentucky's listing found two newspapers with a link to all newspapers. Some odd gaps here; there are no newspapers listed for Kansas (is that because subscription-requirement papers are excluded? It's not clear.) In the case where there are archives available there are green links pointing to that. If you back up to the main Big101 site ( http://www.big101.com ) you'll see that it contains many different types of aggregated information, including magazines, bike racing, fashion, etc. It's a crowded site; not graphic heavy, though, and a quick load. Looked worth a browse, except for the sections where I saw "Top Links" that looked like non-denoted ad links. Igh.
