Toronto Star Archives Available; 1945 Free

The Toronto Star has digitized its archives -- 1892-2001 -- and made them available online in a searchable archive. And while you have to pay to search the whole thing (you can buy subscriptions for five hours, 48 hours, or 7 days) you can search 1945 for free. The archive's available at http://www.pagesofthepast.ca/ .

You may search by word or phrase, or browse by date. I decided to browse by date, and looked for April 13, 1945 -- the day after Truman became President of the US. I got a list of pages available for that date. I picked the front page and got it in its full PDF glory, with a large picture of FDR on the front. It appears that PDFs are the only available format for the data, and transcripts are not available. By zooming in on the page I could read it fairly well, though the FAQ for the site does mention that the edges of some pages may be unreadable because of the condition of the microfilm when the page was scanned.
