Yahoo Offers an Anti-Spy Solution

Yahoo's started offering a toolbar with an anti-spy solution. The anti-spy solution adds a lot to the download -- it's 3MB, whereas without it's 0.4 MB -- and it still requires Internet Explorer. You can download it at http://toolbar.yahoo.com/ .

If you've ever downloaded a toolbar before this'll look familiar; make sure you have your ActiveX controls available (or set on "prompt"), agree to the terms of service, and it'll install. It gives you the option to scan or not scan for tracking cookies.

The toolbar does a fairly quick scan and gives you results in two groups; Spyware and Adware. It then offers to give you details and, of course, remove the offending materials. For me it ran very quickly, and it was nice to have the option to tell it not to bother with cookies. The toolbar also offers you a pointer to a spyware community at Yahoo and more information on spyware/adware.
