Find Out About the Business of Baseball

Interested about more in baseball than the infield fly rule? Find out about at the Business of Baseball site, now at http://www.businessofbaseball.com . It's for people who want to learn about the business end of professional baseball.

The site is broken up into several sections. To start there are biographies (four biographies on people important to the business of baseball -- are those birth/death dates for Charlie Ebbets correct? Click on the person's name for a more in-depth biography.) There is also information on current sites (mostly US, one in Mexico) which do not have and want a major league baseball team.

There's a yummy set of databases and spreadsheets available, including "Player Salaries 1985 - 2004 (Excel)", "League attendance 1884 - 2003 (Excel)", and All-Star game Neilson ratings. There are historical and current document dealing with baseball business issues (For example: "2002- 2006 Basic Agreement", or the "MLB Steering Committee document," circa 1946.) Finally, there are articles, commentary and book reviews, and a few interviews.

The spreadsheets/databases page is really the heart of this site, but it's all worth a look. And of course if you want to keep up with current issues, you can't miss the Business of Baseball Weblog ( http://bizball.blogspot.com ).
