October 13, 2004New Yahoo Hack -- Searchroller for Domain SearchesThis one isn't quite finished yet. I'm hampered by my incomplete knowledge -- okay, almost complete non-knowledge -- of JavaScript. I'm going to toss it out here and if anyone wants to give some feedback, that's be great. A long, long time ago HotBot offered a tool where you'd provide a list of domains and they'd give you a nice little search box to search just those domains. They don't offer that anymore, I don't think, and trying to search a group of domains in Google is *frustrating* because of the ten-word query limit. So because I'm still obsessing about Yahoo's lack of a query limit I bring you Searchroller. Searchroller accepts a list of domains (or folders within domains, like http://www.google.com/adsense/) and rolls them into a bookmarklet that you can use to search that particular set of domains whenever you like. Give it a whirl: Some examples of domain collections to search: Major News Outlets -- cnn.com msnbc.com usatoday.com nytimes.com washingtonpost.com bbc.co.uk Tech News Outlets -- news.com slashdot.org techdirt.com wired.com pcworld.com technologyreview.com Presidential Candidates -- badnarik.org waltbrownforpresident.org georgewbush.com johnkerry.com votenader.org peroutka2004.com Less Likely Presidential Candidates -- blair2004.com dioforamerica.com gollum2004.com vote-nobody.com -- Update: Thanks to many readers (notably JZ and MM) I have changed searchroller.pl and it now spits some form code. Give it a whirl. Feedback still appreciated. |
