December 02, 2004LexisNexis Launches LexisNexis AlaCarteLast week information provider LexisNexis announced LexisNexis AlaCarte!, a service for small businesses and independent professionals to use LexisNexis, um, ala carte. This new service will allow users to search free-of-charge and pay only for documents received. The new service is available at http://www.lexisnexis.com/alacartenow . Before you do any kind of searching you're gonna have to register. Registration requires all kindsa information, including name, address, phone number, and business type. And there's one of those boxes that you have to check if you DON'T want to get their promotional e-mail. Ptui, LexisNexis. After registering and slogging through their terms of service (and confirming my registration) (and logging in for the first time) I got down to searching. The default search is for news, though tabs at the top of the screen also cover business research, legal, and business public records. (Legal isn't quite available yet.) All of these are simple searches. I stuck with the news, and decided to do a search on autism and genetics. I searched for autism AND genetics in the last week. A pulldown menu allows you to determine your timeframe, or you can run an advanced search which lets you narrow by specific date or use a whole bunch of other search options. I got 26 results. Results listed the headline for an item, resource, date, and cost. All the ones I saw were three dollars. There was an annoying amount of overlap; five copies of what looked like the same wire release from Johns Hopkins, just in different sources. You get the articles you want by checking Order Now. A popup will confirm that you want to buy the article, and you'll be kicked out to a credit card form. Posted in the following categories: Paid Services | TrackBack |
