December 06, 2004YeahYeahYeah Another Blog Directory -- QuackTrackWell, they came up with a name I won't forget in a hurry, anyway. QuackTrack ( http://quacktrack.com/ ) is a searchable subject index for Weblogs -- as they put it "330,000 links to 85,000 blogs in a thousand categories". The front page has a list of categories you can browse. Most of them have subcategories. Corporate Blogs doesn't; I started with that. The category has a definition (a nice touch; often you don't know why a particular blog may be listed where it is) and then blogs listed by link popularity. Yahoo Search Blog and MSN Search Blog were right up there at the top; I wonder where the Google Blog was? Each listing contains the site's title, URL, a link to the blog's Blogshares profile, a link to the blog's RSS feed (via Syndic8) and the date/time of its last update. The site also offers a simple keyword search that searches both categories and blog names; even as the site itself responds fairly quickly the search is slow. Search listings include just site name and URL; how about a little additional information, so I don't go looking around at blogs that haven't been updated in ages? |
